Cirumstances of acquisition unrecorded.
Note: Gaur was the capital of Bengal under its ancient Hindu Kings, and after about A.D. 1200 under Muslim rulers. The ruins were frequently explored and sketched by the British as they passed up and down the Ganges. The Daniells visited the city in October 1791 after staying with Samuel Davis in Bhagalpur. It is possible that he made this sketch when visiting the spot with them.
