Inscribed on front with names of forts and: ‘Ali Musjid. Looking North West. August 23rd. 1880. John Day.’
Pen-and-ink and pencil; 8.25 by 12 ins.
Note: In a note attached to the picture John Day wrote on 28 March 1898: ‘Ali Musjid, which was wrecked by the Afridis last autumn, but which is now again occupied by British troops, is the first post of importance in the Khyber Pass; it was near this place that Sir Henry Havelock-Allen was lately killed.’
