‘Henzidah - from the Steamer.’
THE scenery of the river now becomes as variable as its course is devious. Here, the banks, covered with impenetrable masses of the tall Elephant grass, shut all else from observation; there, low banks and a full river afford views of large plains of uncultivated land, save here and there when relieved by small plantations of the plantain tree. Occasionally higher banks are bordered with handsome trees, amidst which a large blue flower, the blossom of the Peema, is seen in considerable quantities.
The town of Henzidah, which is two days steam journey from Rangoon, has little to distinguish it from any other Burman town, except that the buildings have the advantage of higher ground, and assume a more comfortable, dry, and wholesome appearance.
A very distant view of the Arracan Hills was obtained after leaving this place.
