Memorial to the Earl of Elgin and Kincardine (Viceroy of India 12 March 1862 - 20 November 1863) designed by Sir Richard Strachey. Drawn 2 September 1866.
Inscribed on front in ink: ‘Monument erected over the Remains of the late Lord Elgin at Dhurmsala’. ‘Drawn by Mohumed Husson 2nd Septr 1866’; on back: ‘In Memory of James Bruce /Earl of Elgin and Kincardine Kt. G.C.B. G.C.S.I./Viceroy and Governor General of India who/having previously served his country/Governor of Jamaica/Governor General of Canada/High Commissioner and Ambassador to China/and inother high Offices Died at Dhurmsala/ in the Discharge of his duties on the 20th of November 1866 (sic).’
