The Left battery at the Observatory on the Ridge at Delhi, 1857.
‘No. 2. View of the remaining part of the left heavy gun battery; the right gun in this view and the gun in No. 1 are meant for the same piece, the battery was first built for 1 gun and one 8-inch howitzer and has gradually been increased to its present dimensions. Many of the embrasures are now without guns as the howitzers which occupied the places have had their trunnions broken from firing at such a great elevation as it necessary to make them carry to the city; on the left is a portion of Delhi (in the distance) showing the Moree bastion which is now pretty well knocked about.
