The Crow’s Nest Picquet on the Ridge at Delhi, 1857.
‘No. 6. View of the interior of the Crow’s nest; it will give you some idea of the pleasant nature of the ground we have to work on, on the very top is one light field gun and from that point running down the hill to the left is a stone breastwork which the men seem to use as much for building temporary wigwams against as for fighting. I have tried to draw some of these efforts of theirs but the picture is too small to show them well; besides the two guns there are three small 5½ inch mortars to defend this post. Lieut. F.L. Tandy, R.E., Bengal Sappers & Miners.’
Note: the Crow’s Nest picquet was on the extreme south-west corner of the Ridge, overlooking the road from the Kabul Gate to Sabzi Mandi.
