- Title:
-
A carriage with three outriders approaching Barrackpore House.. Artist(s): Daniell, William (1769-1837)
- Scope & Content:
-
A carriage with three outriders approaching a palatial house or assembly rooms. c.1800.
Inscribed on front in ink: ‘W.’ ‘Daniell.’
Wash: 4.25 by 7.25 ins.
Purchased 3 November 1954.
Note: This drawing bears the signature W Daniell, and was accepted by M Archer in her catalogue as a Daniell, without identifying the place. The building is in fact Barrackpore House as modified by Lord Minto and as drawn by E H Locker in 1807, suggesting that if it is by Daniell, then he must have used the work of another artist as a model for the building.
