Note: This monolithic bull, or Nandi (Siva’s vehicle), was carved out of granite in the 16th century at the Basavangudi temple on a hillock near Gavipur to the south of Bangalore, with an adjacent ‘dhvajastambha’ or flag-staff over 10 metres high.
