Inscribed on front in ink: ‘Musjid near Hydrabad in Sind.’ On reverse in ink: ‘Drawings in Scinde from Capt. Maxfield 1817.’
Water-colour; 11 by 13.75 ins.
Note: William Maxfield served in the Bombay Marine 1803-25, and took part in Lord Valentia’s survey of the Red Sea and coast of Abyssinia 1804-06, in a brief survey in Sind April-October 1809, and then survey the Bengal coast and the mouth of the Hooghly. In July 1817 he commanded the survey ship ‘Sophia’ which brought MacKenzie from Madras to Calcutta.
