Main façade, with steps leading down to tank in the foreground: 'The Raja of Bhurtpore died in 1825. His cenotaph is remarkable for its size and the grandeur of its design, and for the elegance and elaboration of its details. This, with the gateway of Shet Lukhmeechund's temple, may be considered as proofs that Hindoo architecture, where unaffected by the debased styles or the sordid parsimony of Europe, still possesses life and vigour, and may have a brilliant future before it.'
