View along the valley towards mountains beyond. Caption note continues: 'This dreary spot is occupied, during the less severe season, by a horde of Bhotias, - a tribe of Ladac, who live by herding cattle. Their habitation is composed of a blanket supported by sticks, under which they live huddled together, gipsy fashion, for the sake of warmth. The approach of winter drives them to the nearest town. On the left appear the white tents of our party.'
