The Tomb of Kullee Kootub Shah [Muhammad Qutb Shah's Tomb, Golconda]. Photographer: Nixon, H. J.
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
General view of Muhammad Qutb Shah's Tomb. 'Situated in a straight line north to south with the Borrah Mosjeed's, this tomb, with the exception of that of Ebrahim Pascha, is the most magnificent of all the remains of the 'City of the Dead'. Its dome and upper portions - a pile as large as St Paul's in London - were covered with a beautiful enamel of different colours. Time and the spoiler's fingers have left but few vestiges of it on the tomb. Fragments of this enamel are to be found everywhere through the ruins of Golconda, some of which vie in brilliancy of colour with the jasper and the emerald.'
