View of the Camp, Delhi. Photographer: Bourne and Shepherd
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Historical Events
'The tents of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales at the Camp of Exercise were pitched in a fine open plain, about a mile from the Kashmir Gate of the city and the same distance from those of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief, and composed a fit military place for the occasion. They stretched the whole breadth, a hundred yards, of the great avenue formed by the two rows of tents containing the royal suite, and included, besides noble apartments for sleeping, dining, sitting, and all other private or ordinary purposes, a vast durbar-room or reception-hall, which, though its walls and roof were of canvas, was really, by its proportions and decorations, superb enough for the palace of a king's capital.'
[Albumen print, 135x97mm].
