View from an upper storey, looking across the inner courtyard towards the entrance (over which the Union flag is flying): 'This is the house where the Mission resided at Lhasa. It is a fine large building, surrounding four sides of a big courtyard. After the Mission had been in it sometime it became comparatively clean. With the usual Tibetan contempt for ordinary methods, it is built in the middle of an unhealthy swamp, and is approached through a foot or two of mud and water.' Another copy (printed in platinum) at Photo 430/53 (62).
