General view of the bungalow of the American Minister, Mr De Long, on the Bluff at Yokohama: 'On his arrival here, there being no American Legation, he purchased the house on the Bluff built by, and the private property of, his predecessor, General Van Valkenburgh. It has the advantage of a fine commanding site, overlooking the settlement, and with a fine view of the Yokohama valley and the harbour — but the grounds are very limited; and the house itself is small.' (p. 6).
