Scope & Content:

Album bound in half red leather and marbled paper, measuring 260 x 375 mm. The album was originally catalogued as Talbot Album No. 8 and has the number written by Talbot in the top left corner of the inside cover. It contains 40 prints and 11 negatives all dating from between 1839 and 1841; the contents include examples of photogenic drawing contact negatives, photogenic drawing camera negatives, salted paper prints from photogenic negatives and early examples of prints from calotype negatives. Subject matter includes; views of Lacock Abbey, sculpture, still life, and botanical specimens. The images are severely faded and particularly vulnerable and therefore should not be viewed under normal light levels.

On inside endpaper, in the top left corner, a label is pasted with the inscription 'Sold by J. Dickinson 114 New Bond St.’
