Scope & Content:

This album was displayed at the first exhibition held in Britain on photography, which was housed in the Great Room of the Society's House, London.

Bound album with marbled paper cover and black leather trim with gold edging measuring 325 x 415 x 55 mm. A piece of embossed card is pasted in the centre and inscribed, 'The Specimens sent by/ H.F. Talbot are intended/ to exhibit an Early Period of the Art/ from 1841 to 1846./ None of them are of a more/ recent date.'

An article by William Henry Fox Talbot entitled 'The Process of Talbotype (formally called Calotype) Photogenic Drawing, communicated to the Royal Society, June 10th, 1841' is adhered to an inside leaf of the album. The article was printed by 'J. & H. Cox, Brothers, 74 & 75, Great Queen Street, Lincoln's-Inn Fields'.
