Copies of letters from Governor General Charles Canning to various correspondents. Nos. 1-17 were written from various places on tour, namely from Camp Peplee? (14 Jan), Camp Bara (22 Jan), Camp Julundur (1 Feb), Camp Girana (3 Feb), Camp Kukkawala (10 Mar), Camp Kangree? (27 Mar), Camp Hoshiarpore (31 Mar), Camp Roopur (5 Apr), Camp Khurrar (7 Apr), Simla (15 & 29 Apr), Dhurmpore (8 May), Umbala (9 May), Allyghur (12 May) and Raneegunge (20 May). Letters 18-61 are primarily addressed from Calcutta, although some in Sep and Oct were written from Barrackpore. Letters 62-77 were written during Canning's second tour, and are addressed from Monghyr (24-25 Nov), Dinapore (29 Nov), Buscar (1 Dec), Benares (4-9 Dec), Camp Mirzapore (16 Dec), Camp Kutra Pass (20 Dec), Camp Mowgunge (23 Dec), Camp Ryepore (27 Dec) and Camp Rewah (28 Dec).
