Miscellaneous Copy Letters Sent by the Governor General: 1856 to 1859
- Scope & Content:

Copies of letters written by Charles Canning, primarily relating to military issues, but also in relation to appointments and patronage for individuals. Includes information pertaining to army reform, and the discontent amongst European Troops as a result of the Proclamation of Nov 1858, the so-called 'White Mutiny'. Although letters are written primarily from Calcutta and occasionally Barrackpore, those written between Feb 1858 and Jan 1859 are written from Allahabad. Letters are numbered 1-84 with list and detailed summaries of letters, continued in Mss Eur F699/1/1/4/7.
