Letter without date (9 sheets, written on the rectos and versos of information sheets about grants for research in the U.S., and on an invoice from a Cambridge bookseller), with envelope. Envelope annotated (more recently, in respect of autobiography) in Joan Bakewell's hand, in red: 'Paddington Station: Read!'
• 13 December 1953 (franking date), Sutton Coldfield. Letter, with envelope, dated 'Wednesday 3.30' (3 sheets), 'Tuesday 3 o'clock' (3 sheets), 'Friday 10.30' (5 sheets) and 'Saturday' (1 sheet, with marginal marking in red of recent date by Bakewell, against passage referring to her mother).

• 27 December 1953 (franking date, Birmingham). Letter, with envelope, dated 'Monday 5.30' (4 sheets), Thursday 12.30 pm' (1 sheet), Friday-Saturday (3 sheets) and undated (2 sheets).
• 29 December 1953 (franking date, Sutton Coldfield. Letter without date (5 sheets), with envelope.

Undated letters:

• 2 notes ('I love you') with envelopes by hand [early summer 1953?] and 7 undated letters. References in the letters to time spent together in Florence [August 1953], to the theatre play 'No Sign of the Dove', and to Christmas, and also the personal nature of the salutations ('Dearest'), all suggest that these letters are probably from the autumn of 1953.
