- Title:
- Edict of Jiaqing 25 (1820) [Chinese]
- Scope & Content:
-
An edict, in Chinese, printed on a large yellow sheet with a decorative dragon border. The edict is the last testament of the Jiaqing Emperor, dated Jiaqing 25, 7th month, 25th day (2 September 1820), the day of his death. It surveys the dying Emperor's reign, pardons his brother, and announces the succession.
The other sheet is in Manchu [15406.a.33 (1)].
The Chinese text adds that the Emperor's last testament was drawn up by Ruan Yuan (阮元) (who was, at that time, Governor General of Guangdong and Guangxi), and Kang Shaoyong (康紹鏞) (the Governor of Guangdong).
