Diary of Sheena Tennant
- Scope & Content:
-
In this diary Sheena mainly spends her time between ‘The Minesweepers Association’ office, socialising, going to church, practicing and teaching music and attending the weddings of two of her sisters. She still travels about Britain considerably, spending nights in: Fairlie, Scotland; London; Ugley, Essex; Ayr, Scotland; Dorking, Surrey; Warborough, Oxfordshire; Glasgow; Angerton, Scotand; [Eynesbury?], Cambridgeshire; Cambridge; Cheltenham, Gloucestershire; Newcastle; Angerton, Cumbria; Loch Goil, Scotland. She continues to see a lot of her friends, including Joan Howson and Alice Gairdner. There are also mentions of a friend named Whately Smith [possibly Walter Whately Carington?].
There is little direct mention of the War in this diary although Sheena does attend several lectures about it, including a lecture by Arthur Conan Doyle on the Battle of Loos in February. There are occasional mentions of friends and family being on leave or recovering from war injuries and Sheena also makes a few visits to hospitals to cheer up wounded soldiers. However, after the summer there is a marked increase in her war work as she frequently mentions that she is attending lectures on First Aid and Home Nursing, practicing First Aid and rolling bandages.
