Diary of Sheena Tennant
- Scope & Content:
-
In this diary Sheena Tennant continues to work at ‘The Minesweepers Association’ office, working with Lady Jellicoe, Lady Jackson and Admiral Sir Albert Hastings Markham. She also passes her Home Nursing Exams and in September begins work in the offices of the Hampstead Military Hospital. At the hospital she works closely with Major Byam, Lieutenant Churchill and Lieutenant Wilson in a department dealing with Trench Fever, spending a lot of her time translating German medical articles into English. Her diaries also mention meetings with Prince and Princess Louis of Battenberg, Lady Milford Haven, Joan Howson and Alice Gairdner.
Sheena continues to record her social engagements, music practice, concerts and lectures that she has attended. Sheena also holds a Red Cross Fete and joins a gymnasium. There is a marked increase in references to the War from September onwards with frequent mentions of air raids. Her travel around Britain is reduced, although she still spends her summer and Christmas in Scotland, also spending nights in: Ugley, Essex; London; Burnham; Goring, Oxfordshire; Fairlie, Scotland; Loch Goil, Scotland; Blair Atholl, Scotland; Kinloch Rannoch, Scotland; Killin, Scotland; St Fillans, Scotland; Angerton, Scotland; Glasgow; Ayr, Scotland.
