Diary of Sheena Tennant
- Scope & Content:
-
In this diary Sheena Tennant continues to work at ‘The Minesweepers Association’ office, working with Lady Jackson, Admiral Sir Albert Hastings Markham and Sir Edward Thesiger. In addition, she continues her work at Hampstead Military Hospital, working in the Trench Fever Department with Major Byam. She also meets Lady Milford Haven, Whately Smith [possibly Walter Whately Carington?], Princess Louise of Battenberg, Lady Glasgow and Sir Henry Newbolt.
Sheena performs in a number of charity entertainments, playing the piano, and goes to a lot of concerts, plays, lectures and exhibitions. She mentions her frustration at the expense and poor quality of clothes in the shops and by the autumn of 1918 starts to record the strain of her war work. She notes the large amount of influenza cases in October and November and expresses her delight when the War is over. However, she continues to work in the hospital.
Although Sheena travels far less than in previous years she does spend nights in London; Colchester, Essex; Southsea, Portsmouth; Witley, Surrey; Ugley, Essex; Fairlie, Scotland; Loch Goil, Scotland; Burgh Heath, Surrey; Hatch End, London; Burnham, Buckinghamshire
