- Scope & Content:

Material relating to the Harry Roy Band, which played on board RMS Alcantara when Bakewell travelled with her parents to Argentina in 1938. See Bakewell, The Centre of the Bed (2003), Chapter 3.
The file comprises:
- 10 issues of The Bugle Call Rag (Newsletter of the Harry Roy Appreciation Society): No. 59 (Spring 1993); No. 60 (Summer 1993); No. 65 (Spring 1995); No. 76 (Christmas 1998); No. 78 (Summer 1999); No. 80 (Spring 2000); No. 81 (Summer 2000); No. 82 (Christmas 2000); No. 83 (Spring 2001); No. 84 (Summer 2001). Some of the issues have yellow 'post-it' slips attached by Bakewell to pages where text in the Newsletters has been underlined. Newsletter No. 65 (1995) includes a short contribution by Bakewell: 'Harry Roy in My Early Life' (pp. 6-7).
- Letter. Barbara Snowling to Bakewell, 28 November 1994, thanking her for her contribution to Newsletter No. 65.
- Letter. Dorothy Cusswell to Bakewell, 19 October 2001. Covering letter sent with 'a few Newsletters'.
- Obituary for John Wilkens (photocopy, Daily Telegraph, 2 March 1995). Wilkens played (after World War II) with the Harry Roy Band.
- Information about Harry Roy printed from the internet.
- Information about Sarawak, Malayasia, printed from the internet. Includes reference to Sir Charles Vyner Brooke. In The Centre of the Bed, p. 27, Bakewell notes that 'in 1935 [Harry Roy] had married Princess Pearl, the daughter of the white Raja of Sarawak [...] Her ancestor James Brooke was a nineteenth century British adventurer straight out of Conrad.'
- Obituary for Stanley Black (1913-2002), pianist, composer and conductor (cutting from The Guardian). In a passage marked by Bakewell, the obituary refers to Black's 'mastery of the Latin-American styles he had first encountered on a 1938 tour of South America with Harry Roy.'
- Programme fragment from RMS Alcantara 1938 (single sheet) listing members of the Harry Roy Band (includes Stanley Black on piano).
