Letters from and essays by Lucas (in typescript, with a single buff envelope). Concerning Charles Darwin's walks in Wales.
- (1). 10 Nov 1994 (typed letter signed, 2 sheets). 'You ask what time of year D[arwin] did his walk from Capel Curig to Barmouth (as he called it). To the first question only I can give a definite answer.'
- (2). 15 Dec 1995. Photocopy cutting (The Times, 1 sheet) about the exhibition 'The National Gallery and the Second World War'. Article includes a photograph of pictures from the National Gallery being transported, 'spirited away to their wartime refuge in North Wales'.
- (3). 12 Nov 1997 (typed letter signed): 'In case you are having trouble getting to sleep, here (Part IV Pengwern Arms Ffestiniog) is my current version of Darwin's journey from Capel Curig to Ffestiniog, and on to Barmouth, which we discussed so long ago.' Enclosing 12 sheets.
- (4). 10 Jun 1998 (typed letter signed) referring to impending visit by American Darwin scholar Sandra Herbert. 'It would be wonderful to have you both here for the 23rd.' Enclosing 9 sheets.
- (5). 13 Dec 2000 (autograph postcard). Enclosing 'Darwin at Plas Edwards (1819)' (photocopy plan of 'Houses and Lands at Towyn with Glanymor' plus 11 sheets).
- (6). 'Jigsaw with Pieces Missing: Charles Darwin with John Price at Bodnant, the Walking Tour of 1826 and the Expeditions of 1827' (21 sheets, preceded by Abstract and followed by 2 photocopy maps.
