Letters and postcards to Lady Self and Sir Henry Self from their son, Peter. The letters fall into four chronological groups:
- (1). [1930]-1932. Autograph letters sent from Malborough House, Hawkhurst, Kent.
- (2). 1933-1936. Autograph letters sent from Lancing College, West Sussex. Includes as unused postcard: a school group photograph (Lancing College?)
- (3). [c 1937]-1941. Autograph letters sent from Balliol College, Oxford.
- (4). 1943-1949. Year dates on some of theses autograph letters have been added (in blue ink) at a later date by Peter Self. Letters 1944-45 are written on The Economist letterhead. Includes postcard from Rome (1949).
- (5). 28 postcards (most 1936-39, a few 1949).
A feature of some of the later letters (and generally between other family members) is the custom of addressing Lady Self as 'Mumbles' and Sir Henry Self as 'Dids'.
