Various newspapers and magazines kept together with the author's Umbrella research papers (although in most cases, save for the first two items, there is no apparent connection with the novel):
- (1). Complete copy of The Times newspaper for 28 June 1919, featuring on the front page 'The Full Text of the Peace Treaty'.
- (2). Letter from a reader of Will Self's column in the Evening Standard, referring to his remarks on Field Marshall Haig, together with Self's reply (2006): 'I'm intending to write a book that will be set - at least in part - during the First War, and I will be undertaking a more thorough review of the whole matter, so thank you for your (potential) corrective demarche.'
