Contains docketed sets of papers numbered 1 to 25, originally in one bundle labelled ‘No. 1. Military Secretary’s Office: Miscellaneous Letters to the Governor General Nos. 1 to 100’. Consists of an original letter sent either directly to the Military Secretary, Charles Canning, or Lady Canning, with any additional enclosures or copies of replies. Information includes name of the writer or recipient of the initial letter, the position and location of the sender or recipient, the date the letter was written, the date it was received, the date it was answered, and a summary of the letter.
Letter no. 7 from Mrs Charlotte Pitt was transferred to the Military Department, and no. 21 from Rev. E. Neale is with letter no. 70 (in Mss Eur F699/1/3/5/5).
