- Covers the period 1 Jan-23 Oct 1933, with individual entries for 18 Mar 1934 (Stella and her husband's return to Shanghai after their wedding and honeymoon in Europe), 24 Apr 1938 (just after the birth of their second child, Juniper), and Dec 1977 giving Stella's thoughts on re-reading her first five diaries (ie Add MS 89279/8/5-9). The main section of the volume includes a description of Stella and John's travels through Europe for their honeymoon, a trip that took in Cologne and Munich in the early months of Nazi rule.
