A cutting from a Gradual with a historiated initial 'I' in colours and gold, of two Creation scenes: the Creation of the Sky and of the Earth, where the Creator is represented with two faces. Attributed to the Master of the British Library Hymnal (active in Siena, first quarter of the 15th century). Additional MS 30014, a Sienese hymnal dated 1415, is the eponymous manuscript for this artist.
On the reverse are three four-line staves with musical notation and three-lines of partial text: '...imi /...R. V. /…?'.

The Augustinian monastery of San Salvatore, Lecceto, near Siena: cut from one of three graduals, Siena, Biblioteca Comunale degli Intronati, Mss. H.I.1, G.I.7 or G.I.14.
An anonymous 19th-century owner: inscribed on the reverse 'of 14th century' and 'Head of the ?figure and Prudence ? / and Pisano south gate of St Giovanni Florence'.
Walter Benjamin Tiffin (b. 1795, d. 1877), London art dealer and publisher: purchased from him by the Department of Prints and Drawings of the British Museum on 28 June 1854.
Transferred to the British Museum Department of Manuscripts, 26 February 1907.
