Letter to Bell from A H Smith, Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities, British Museum, dated 25 July [1927?] regarding arrangements to clean the Vespasian tablets (76 AD), and that it would be preferable for the museum to retain them.
Letters to Bell from Herbert Thompson, dated 27 July 1930 and 1 February 1931, regarding the demotic papyri and his hope that the museum will acquire more 'dedication' documents, and also thanking Bell for selling him a particular book.
Three letters to Bell from Henry A Sanders, University of Michigan, dated August to November 1927, regarding: Peterson's report to the Committee, and his success in securing additional funding; Professor Bonner's upcoming trip to Athens; the return of prehistoric flints found by Peterson whilst working for the Michigan Expedition, which were removed without permission by Count de Prorok; discussion over the inclusion of Princeton and Oslo in the Papyrus Syndicate; the expansion of abbreviations contained in the birth certificates and tablets; and the appointment of Dr Mullen as Curator of Papyri and Manuscripts. One letter encloses a receipt for money received for the purchase of papyri.
Letters to Bell from Professor Dr W Schubart, in German, dated September 1928 to May 1930, principally regarding membership of the Papyrus Syndicate, and the proposed tariff, including discussion of: Italian attitudes towards the Papyrus Syndicate; the difficulty in forming and operating a Syndicate; the decision not to reform the Deutsche Papyruskartell after the war; Vitelli's communication of the Medea Norsa discovery; and German expeditions to Cairo. Bell's initial proposal for a tariff is enclosed with the letter dated 25 September 1928.
