By J. Z. Holwell, Esq., London, 1765. This being so, the Postcript, which is described as a "Plan of the means to conquer Bengal and keep it as a province dependant on Great Britain, supposed by Col. Scot" (pp. 1487-1499), is possibly also Holwell's, though in Chapter III. (pp. 177-205) he has modified his proposal to one of obtaining the Provinces from the Great Mughal in a peaceable manner. See, however, 12. 18, which is endorsed as Colonel Scott's Project for Conquering Bengal.

Noble's letter to the Select Committee, Madras, dated 22 Sept. 1756 (Hilrs Bengal in 1756-57, Vol, III, p, 328), as the "High priest of the Gentues" and the head of the Fakir caste in Bengal.

On the East India Company's Military Strength in Bengal, Fort William, &c., and an historical Account of some military operations against the Morattoes and Country Government in Support of their Commerce. This letter is addressed to C. R., Esq. It contains letters from Mr. John Foster (the President or Governor) and Captain William Holcombe, and an address, dated 24 Nov. 1747, to the Gentleman Volunteers of Calcutta. These papers are of some interest for details, but the writer's style is very confused. VIII. 13 below appears to be a continuation of this correspondence. In the India Office Records Miscellaneous letters Received, Vol. 38, No. 187a) there is an original letter from Thomas Fenwicke to the Court of Directors dealing with much the same subjects as these letters.
