1, pp. 5041-5043. A letter, dated Moraudbaug, 17 Dec. 1757, from Luke Serafton to Clive. Copied by Orme himself. Gives an account of the Seths, a great banking family at Murshidabad. Orme notes as follows:- "This is a very curious letter and deserves much enquiry. The only objection is the great wealth the Seats must have accumulated." It is interesting as showing how the Government Treasury was managed under the Muhammadan Government in Bengal.

3, pp. 5081-5117. Motts Journey to Sumulpoor, 1776. Copy. Mr. Motte was sent by Lord Clive to Sambalpur to value diamonds. He started some time in March or April, but gives very few dates, the greater part of the Journal being descriptive. The writer is Thomas Motte, mentioned (see British Museum Addl. MS., 29236, f. 3 (b)) in Dr. Hancock's letter-book in 1770 as trading in diamonds at Benares. In fact, a version of this narrative is printed in The Asiatick Miscellany, Vol, II., pp. 1-66 (1786), under the title of, "Narrative of a journey to the Diamond Mines of Sumbhulpoor, by Thomas Motte, Esq." Another copy was printed in the Asiatic Annual Register for 1799 (Miscellaneous Tracts, p. 50).
