Many of the papers are, as conjectured by Dr. Thomas, given in No. 36 of the "Private Collection." (Mss Eur Mack Private 36). Most are translations and all are copies.
1, p.1: Programme published by the Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences for the years 1783-90. [Incomplete.] See 289, 12 below and Mackenzie Private 36, 2.
2, pp. 11-15: Memoir on the present state of the Batavian Society by Mr. Sevenhoven. October 1812. Translated by H. L. Mesman. See Mackenzie Private 36, 9.
3, pp. 19-24: Minute by Mr. Sevenhoven on the Memoirs of Dr. Horsefield to the Council and Directors of the Batavian Society. October 1812. Not in Blagden's volume; but see his note to Pr. 36, 9. Sevenhoven had been appointed to examine the papers of the botanist, T. Horsefield, and here gives brief descriptions of them. The papers relate to (1) An analysis of sand and iron; (2) Medicinal plants, &c. (3) Journey along the River Solo and the hills of Tenger (see No. 4 below and Mackenzie/Private/36, 6); (4) Journey through the rest of the eastern districts (See No. 5 below and Mackenzie Private 36, 7); (5) Botany; (6) Chain of hills in the Jacatra and Preanger lands, the volcano called Goenong Goenter or Thunder Hill (see No. 6 below and Mackenzie Private 36, 8); (7) Analysis of a mineral spring; (8) The famous Aya Pana ; (9) Economical remarks; (10) Botanical; (11) Analysis of Gamber Gum; (12-15) Trees, including the Soap Tree ; (17 and 21) Drawings and register of plants; (18-20) Papers which he cannot describe because they are in English. He refers to Horsefield as an American and speaks of his great progress in the Dutch language. Refers to Professor Ross.

7, pp. 81-158: Narrative of a Journey through the Island of Java addressed to the Hon'ble Thos. S. Raffles, Lieutenant Governor of the Island of Java and its dependencies, &e. By Dr. Thomas Horsefield. This is interesting as giving a fairly full account of Horsefield's activities in Java up to 1811. The following notes summarise the contents: 1: Arrived at Batavia at the end of 1801. 2: Examined the vegetable products of the Island and reported to the Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences; list of vegetables minutely analysed. 3: Tour of investigation from May 1804. 5: Cheribon. 7: Discovered a mineral well. 8: Examined the Goonoong Goontoor volcano. 10: Other volcanoes. 12: Having taken a general view of the vegetable products of the district returned to Cheribon. 14: In November proceeded to the regencies along the north-east of the Island to Samanang and examined the mountains south of that place. 20: In July 1805 proceeded to Djocjocarta. 21: The southern coast. 23: Hot wells. 24: Soorakarka and Lawoo volcano: 28: Salt wells in the valley of Kowoo. 30: Volcanic well. 35: River Solo. 42: Boats used by the Javanese. 44: Passoorooang. 45: Mountain of Tengger and the "Sand Sea." 48: Malang. 53: The Soorabaya river. 54: In April 1806 proceeded to the regency of Banger and thence to the district of La Madjang. 58: Lamongan volcano. 61: In June to Poogur. 63: Djember. 68: Bondo-wosso. 70: Goonoon Ringgit, a volcano. 72: The White River or Kali-pootee. 76: Banejoo-wangee and the mountain of Idjen (Ijin). 80: Ooloopampang; Poison called Oopas (see No. 5 above); in October to Passooramang. (The paragraph numbers here cease.) p. 146: The eastern volcanoes. p. 148: Another excursion to the mountain of Tengger; in August arrived at Samarang. p. 149: At end of 1807 and early in 1808 visited Oonanang: His Excellency Marshal Daendels arrives at Samarang in May 1808. p. 150: Made 1ists of plants, drugs, &c. p. 153: Commenced 1809 by traversing the mountain of Prowoto in the regency of Damak. p. 154: Tour from Panggol to Sembooyan. p. 155: The Crater of Menapi. p. 156: Accompanying the letter were (1) Catalogue of Herbarium; (2) Catalogue of drawings; (3) Account of animals; (4) A Mineralogical survey.
