4, pp. 19-36 : Memoir of the Present State of the Fortresses, Fortifications, Roads & Landing places in Java, Compiled from different Authorities May 29th 1811.-With a Military Map of Java exhibiting the different Roads, Posts, & their Relative positions.-Presented to the Commander in Chief on his arrival at Malacca June 1811. By Col(l) Mackenzie. Copy. In pp. 19-27 the principal places on the island are noticed and discussed from a strategical point of view, concluding with a short note of the South Coast of Java ; pp. 29-36 contain a number of tables of distances and notes on routes and roads, and also two copies (one neatly finished and one rough) of a sketch map of the road from Semarang to Solo and Jokyakarta.
5, pp. 55-98 : Military Report on the Coasts, Landing Places &; State of Affairs in Java August 1811 with Appendix & Plans. Copy. (a) pp. 57-89 : H.M. Ship Leda off Indramayoe [=Indramayu], 2 August 1811. Report of Proceedings on the North Coast of Java agreeable to the Instructions of His Excellency Sir S: Auchmuty Commander-in-Chief &c dated at Malacca of the 6th June 1811. By Col(l) Mackenzie. In two parts, of which the first (pp. 57-64) gives an account of Mackenzie's reconnaissance of the coast of Java (which he reached on the 13th July), and the second (pp. 65-9) describes the nature of the country generally, from the strategical point of view, based on information obtained during this cruise. 15 Appendices (pp. 71-89) give the evidence thus collected (mostly from native sources). The practical result of this reconnaissance was that it determined the subsequent landing of the British forces at Chilinching, where Mackenzie had landed on the 14th July and narrowly escaped being captured. (b) pp. 91-2 : Correspondence at Cheribon [=Chirĕbon] on the 24th July 1811 by Captain Owen with the Authorities ashore. Capt. [W. F. W.] Owen, H.M. Sloop Barracouta, adopted the ruse of pretending to be in the French Navy. (c) p. 95 : Batavia Roads, 15 July 1811. Copy of a Description of Marak [=Mĕrak Bay and Island] Communicated by Captain Sayer of H.M. Ship Leda. With a sketch showing the Military topography of the place. (d) p. 97 : H.M. Sloop Barracouta, abreast Edam Isle, off Batavia, 15 July 1811. Letter from Walter Stunt to Capt(n) W. F. W. Owen giving an account of his conduct during the landing at Chilinching. (e) p. 98 : H.M. Ship Leda, Edam Island, 16 July 1811. Letter from Lieut(t) Kelly Nazer to Capt(n) Geo. Sayer, H.M. Ship Leda, giving an account of his conduct on the same occasion.
6, pp. 103-28 : State of the Civil & Military Establishments of the Dutch on the Island of Java in 1810 Alphabetically arranged from Personal Enquiries, the Batavian Almanac & other Authorities begun at Sea in May 1811. on the Voyage to Java. Evidently by Col(l) Mackenzie. Copy. The alphabetical list (pp. 103-18) includes 36 place-names beginning with Ankee [=Angke] and ending with Welt-Vreeden [=Weltevreden], but in many cases the remarks on them are scanty, in some entirely wanting. Then follow (pp. 119-28) a number of tables headed as follows : Population of Java [1726 and 1778] ; Receipts & Expenditure of the Dutch Colonies in 1779; Abstract View of the Military Establishment in Java in March 1811 ; Another View of the Strength & Distribution of the Military Force on the Island of Java-12th March 1811 [showing the distribution, both local and racial]; Military Establishment 1810; and Civil Establishment.

Copy. Contains only a number of questions, for the most part without answers. under the following sub-headings : Jacatra [=Jakatra] Division ; Cheribon [=Chirĕbon] Division ; Bantam Division; Samarang [=Sĕmarang] & Soorabaya [= Surabaya] ; General Questions applicable to all parts ; General Military Queries ; General Observations [a few positive statements are inserted here about Bantam] ; Queries of a Political Nature that may probably be usefully enquired for ; Native States ; Heads to be discussed after Enquiry ; Hints, Memoranda, Expedients & Miscellaneous Queries [here also there are a few positive recommendations].
8, pp. 179-81 : Account of the Surprize of the Batteries on the morning of the 22(d) Aug(t) [1811] & of their Recovery-with a Sketch Plan. Evidently by Col(l) Mackenzie. Copy. This refers to an attack made on the British batteries near Matraman (between Weltevreden and Meester Cornelis) described by Collet, L'Ile de Java sous la Domination Française. pp. 472-6, and Thorn, Memoir of the Conquest of Java, &c. (1815), pp. 48-9.
9, pp. 185-6 : Reference to the Attacks on the Enemy's Posts at Meester Cornelis on the 26th August 1811. Copy. Apparently an explanation of positions on a sketch plan which is not appended.

Report and Journal of the Proceedings of Lieut(t) Colonel Mackenzie Chief Engineer on the Expedition to Batavia on the Island of Java from October 1811 to June 1813. The continuation to 18 July 1813 is dated Fort William 4 December 1813. Comprises an account of his journeys of inspection throughout the island, with descriptions of the topography, scenery, routes, &c., particularly from the strategical point of view, but containing much general information, his work on the Committee appointed in February 1812 to investigate the state of the island in general, with particular reference to the land system and administration, involving a further tour (which included a short excursion to Bali and a visit to Madura and many parts of Java), his arrival at Jokyakarta two days before the place was taken, &c., and a concluding section enumerating in general terms the various points (strategical, topographical, statistical, economic, historical, and the like) on which he recommended enquiries to be made.
