Arbitration (P.Lond. V 1709, TM 19726) and Anthology with Miscellaneous Poems (P.Aphrod.Lit. IV 47, 37, 35, TM 59715, LDAB 819, MP3 351.01)
- Scope & Content:
-
Recto:
Arbitration over inheritance written in Coptic and concerning the same family as the one of P.Cair.Masp. 67006. The papyrus may well be part of the same roll as Papyrus 1745, with a lacuna between them. The plaintiffs, Victorine and Phoebammon, children of the deacon Ioannes, complain about the unequal division of the property made by their step-sister Philadelphia and their step-mother Amanias against their father’s will. In Papyrus 1745 the marriage settlement of Victorine, which is the object of P.Cair.Masp. 67006, seems to be mentioned as well. The arbitrator may well have been Dioscorus of Aphrodito, who wrote the text, and the document belongs to his archive.
Verso:
Anthology with miscellaneous poems by Dioscorus, the other five of which are to be found in Papyrus 1745 (P.Aphrod.Lit. IV 36, 13, 25, 31). Papyrus 1728 contains:
- Lines 1-12 (P.Lond. Lit. 100 A = P.Aphrod.Lit. IV 47): Prose composition (lines 1-7) and poem in iambic verse (lines 8-12) on the martyr Calandus;
- Lines 13-15 (P.Lond. Lit. 100 B = P.Aphrod.Lit. IV 37): Fragment of an epithalamium?
- Lines 16-end (P.Lond. Lit. 100 C = P.Aphrod.Lit. IV 35 = Heitsch XLII 24): Epithalamium for Patricia, spouse of Paulus, with acrostic.
