Letters received by Bell between August and September 1934 regarding the purchase of four lots of papyri from Maurice Nahman. Correspondents: Frank E Robbins (University of Michigan), Dr Walter A Reichart, Maurice Nahman, Samson Eitrem, Campbell Bonner, and Theodore Cressy Skeat. Also includes copies of Bell's outgoing letters to Bonner, Nahman and Robbins.
The file also includes the original envelope bearing the seals of the Department of Antiquities which Nahman used to transport the fragments from Egypt to Paris. Text on the accompanying enclosure reads: 'Original envelope containing fragments of the New Gospel (now Egerton Papyrus 2), and other papyri (since divided between the British Museum and Merton), with Seals of the Service of Antiquities, Cairo, and the signature of Guerand. This was put into Idris Bell's hands by Maurice Nahman, with seals still unbroken, on 21 July 1934.'
