Accounts of Grains from the Zenon Archive (P.Lond. VII 1994, TM 1556)
- Scope & Content:
-
Accounts of grains put at the disposal of Heraclides, an employee of Apollonius working in the latter’s estate. The accounts, arranged in 21 columns (10 on recto, 11 on verso), cover a period of three years (years 33-35 of Ptolemy II Philadelphus) and are to be compared with those of Papyrus 2361 (P.Lond. VII 1995). A final net total is stated and a balance struck in order show whether Heraclides was in credit or debit overall. The method of accounting income and outgoing of different grains is obtained by converting them into wheat equivalent. With marginal notes and corrections throughout. After the last column of the verso, a note written upside down as to the rest of the text mentions Apollonius. The papyrus belongs to the archive of Zenon.
