(1). Prompt book in the form of an exercise book (soft black covers) with printed libretto pasted-in. Stage management notes on facing pages and around the libretto, including annotations by W. S. Gilbert. An ink note by Richard D'Oyly Carte on the verso of the front fly-leaf records that the prompt book is 'of special interest as it contains in print much material that was cut out before production of the opera, including the name "Perola" which was changed to "Iolanthe". RDC / 1923.' An undated pencil note beneath states: 'Most of the stage directions are in W. S. Gilbert's handwriting. Middle of finale Act I.'

(2). Buff envelope front with typed information about the prompt book: 'This must have been the copy Gilbert worked with at rehearsal'.

(3). Various notes placed loosely inside the front cover of prompt book.

(4). 'Deed Box No. 3.' Typed list of items (mostly scores) placed with Coutts Bank, The Strand, London, 13 Nov 1930. The list has subsequently been annotated at various dates, the last checking date 12 Apr 2001.

(5). A separate hand-written checking note for Deed Box 3, referring to three Iolanthe prompt books, also originally stored in Deed Box 3. Note dated 8 Dec 1995. The three prompt books referred to are Add MS 89231/10/16-18.
