1, pp. 1-34 : Names of the Native Servants employed in the Country Villages of Ceylon. Explanations of certain names or titles of native officials, castes, various branches of revenue, &c., in Ceylon, giving thereby a fairly detailed account of the Sinhalese caste-system. Translated from François Valentyn's Naamen der Inlandsche Bedienden, in de Dorpen op Ceylon, being pp. 1-12 of (or preceding) his Beschryvinge van Ceylon, which is part of Deel V of his Oud en Nieuw Oost Indiën (1726). Of also, Mack. Class XIV, 12.
2, pp. 37-199: Particular Matters of Cylon. Translated from pp. 204-47 of François Valentyn's Byzondere Zaaken van Ceylon, in Deel V of the above mentioned work. It includes a notice of some of the Southern ports of India (Tuticorin, the Travancore, Malabar and Canara ports).
3, pp. 205-58: Extract From Valentyn's History Vol: V Pa: 285 to 301 among different matters of Ceylon. Translated by Mr De Niese. Rough Copy with Mackenzie's corrections. It is mostly concerned with Southern India, particularly the Madura district, on the history, political and social organization, religion, &c., of which region it gives much information. From the same source as the preceding.
4, pp. 261-411: Affairs of Religion on Ceylon. The Sixteenth Chapter. Vol 5 Page 366 [-409]. Besides dealing generally with the various religions prevailing in Ceylon (Buddhism, Hinduism, and Muhammadanism) it gives translated extracts from some of the native books, of a cosmological and ethical nature, and a number of proverbs, &c. Translated from the same source as the two preceding pieces. Another copy is in Mack. General Collection LXXIII. 3.
5, pp. 415-25: 1763; (a) Ornamentally sketched title-page bearing the words Carttes où sont traces les' Differentes routtes que Mr C(r) famborne a parcourut tant dedans le Guyroye Corlle que dedans le Paijis du Roy. Levez, et déssiné par J. L. Guyard. l'annee Mil cept cent soixante et trois. But no plans are appended. (b) pp. 417-22: Journal in French, by the author of the preceding, of a journey in Ceylon in October to December 1763, starting from Mature [=Matara] and visiting Tengal, Valvé, Jalpur, and back to Mature. The writer, who was compelled by sickness to return, reports strongly against the establishment of a Dutch military post at Jalpur on account of the unhealthiness of the locality. The journal also contains some topographical details, &c. Mack. 1822. 18. 3 (b) is an English translation of the above. (c) p: 423: Table des Signaux que J'ay donnéz aux Visaquébre Cétoit chargé de nous apporter Nos munitions de toutes Espéce pour Jalpur. Seven sketches of flag-signals, with explanatory text, by the author of (a) supra. Mack. 1822. 18. 3 (c) is an English version of this. (d) p. 425: Letter in French from the author of (a) supra forwarding (b) supra to the Members of Council, Colombo. Mack. 1822. 18. 3 (a) is an English version of this. Apparently these are all originals; (a), (b) and (d) bear the author's signature, (b) and (d) each begins with an ornamental initial letter and headpiece.
