Included in the file are certificates for proficiency in musketry (December 1885), transport training (May 1885), riding (July 1881), fortification and drill (September 1879), and a report of final examination from the Royal Military College, Farnborough (August 1879).
Also included are reports from the United Services' Proprietary College (1875-1876).
The file also contains a passport issued by the Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh to Lieutenant Colonel G Ranken to pass to Rotterdam and to travel on the continent of Europe, dated 8th August 1859; and an extract from the will of Dr W M Macnish, dated 25 August 1881.
