Letter from the governor Qurrah ben Sharik to Basilius, pagarch of Aphrodito, the recipient being in lacuna. A substantial sum of money (over 166 nomismata) has to be supplied for the expenses of the Governor’s household, which includes Arab and Christian members. The letter is dated to the 9th indiction, Pachon 6, and gives details of the expenditures, naming items such as sheep, oil, vegetables, poultry, wine, wood et al.

Two fragments of different sizes from a papyrus roll, with presumably one line, fully lost, between them; the smaller fragment preserves one Arabic line and remains of one Greek line; the larger fragment is well preserved, with the exception of the first line, of which only traces remain. Written on one side, mounted on cardboard and housed in one glass case.

Dimensions: Upper fragment: 50 x 205 mm; Lower fragment: 415 x 210. Framed in one glass case measuring 540 x 260 mm.
Script: Cursive hand, sloping to the right and with letters extending below and above the writing line; the list at the end is in a smaller hand.

Provenance: Aphrodito, Antaiopolite nome, Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 1200-1520 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 20 November 1903.
