1, pp. 1-2 (30.5 x 18.5 cm.). Letter, dated Calcutta, 25 August 1752, from Robert Orme to Robert Clive. Original. Orme anticipates trouble with the native rulers of Bengal:- “The Nabob coming down with all his Excellency's canon (sic) to Hughly and with an intent it is thought to bully all the settlements out of a large sum of money. Clive 'twould be a good deed to swinge the old Dog. I don't speak at random when I say that the Company must think seriously of it or 'twill not be worth their while to trade in Bengal." pp. 3-4 endorsement.

This paper is interesting as giving the actual signatures of two officers, James Killpatrick (but see 287. 10) and William Lin, concerning the spelling of whose names there has been some difference of opinion.
