, pp. 1-2 (37.5 x 20 cm.). Descendants of Tamerlane to Shah Allum from 1400 to 1774, with a note concerning Jehander Schah, Allum Ghir and Ahmed Schah. Copy. Duplicate of 8. 1 above. Jahandar Shah was the eldest son of the Emperor Bahadur Shah (d. 1712). He was himself the father of Alamgir II., who succeeded Ahmad Shah in 1754.
, p. 5 (15.5 x 51 cm.). Persic Inscription on the column at Illahabad, of the Emperors from Tamerlane to Shire Mirza. The column is apparently the Asoka column in the Fort of Allahabad. The date given in this paper is 1114 A.H. which (see Sewell's Indian Calenclar) corresponds. to A.D. 1702, but Keene says that the pillar was re-erected by Jahangir to commemorate his accession to the throne in 1605.
, pp. 7-8 (31.5 x 19.5 cm.). Some account of the Sow Rajah and the Morratoes from Sir James Foulis, wrote in July 1756. Copy. Re-copied in VII. 26.
, pp. 11-38 (20 x 16 cm.). Duplicate of No. 14 below.
, pp. 39-40 (20 x 16 cm.). Whether any of the rivers of I ndostan is in India called Indus. In Latin. Copy. Duplicate of No. 14 (2) below.
, pp. 41-47 (20 x 14.5 cm.). Origine des Jates. Copy.
, p. 49 (20.8 x 15.5 cm.). Suite de l'origine des Siques .. Apparently Original.
, p. 51 (20 x 14.5 cm.). Note f rom the Reverend Father Joseph Tiefenthaler, Jesuit Missionary at Delhi and Agra to Brigadier-General Smith. Copy. Asks for assistance, the churches having been ruined. Jean Law (Memoire sur 'Empire Mogol, p. 358), says that in 1758 he met "at Agra, father Tiffentalen, Jesuite allemand, savant missionaire."
, pp. 55-57 (20 x 14.5 cm.). Apparently original. A statement of the Revenues in 1647 is given ln James Fraser's History of Nadir Shah, pp. 26-27, which for the 23 provinces amount to £27,500,000, whilst under Aurangzeb the amount for 21 provinces is stated (p. 33) as £37,724,615 odd.
, pp. 59-65 (22.8 x 17.3 cm.). Narrative of the Transactions of the M orattoes in and near the Carnatic from February to October 14th 1756, by Captain Maskelyne, who during that time commanded in the Fort of Arcot. Probably a copy.
, pp. 69-73 (22 x 18 cm.). A short sketch of the invasion of Nader Schah into the Mogul Empire. The person who writes this is Mons. de Bussy, who commanded the French forces acting as allies to Salabet Jing. He received his intelligence from Saif chi ken kan, who had been the confident of Nadir Shah and afterwards attached himself to Nizam el muluk, Soubah of the Deccan. Apparently the original translation from Bussy (see 217. 2). See also in 54. 1 and IX. 8.
, pp. 75-98 (22.5 x 19 cm.). Copy. This and Nos. 13 and 14 below are all in the same handwriting. In 24 (p. 32) below, Orme says that he believes that this account was written by a Jesuit; "the stile is barbarous and rendered everywhere more so by the copyer who does not seem to have understood French."
, pp. 99-101 (22.5 x 19 cm.). Copy. The fountain of earrings is at Benares. In the Table of Contents Orme describes this as "a foolish story."
(1),pp. 103-118 (22.15 x 19 cm.). Copy of No. 4 above. (2) p. 119 (22.5 x 19 cm.). Re-copied in XVI. 4. This is signed, C. W. B. R., which I presume to be the initials of C. William Boughton Rouse, who was Import Warehouse Keeper in Calcutta in 1774, and Chief of the Revenue Council at Dacca in 1776. N.B. Orme intended to use this volume in the 14th Book of his History (see 298 (a) 4).
