Extracts of Letters to and from the Presidency of Madras and Captain Caillaud while in the command at Tritchinopoly, from April 24th 1755 to September 14th 1758, containing all the material informations in that period of time concerning Tritchinopoly, Madura, Tinivelly, Tanjore, Tondiman, and the interest and affairs of the countries south of the Coleroon; which I comprise under the denomination of the "Southern Countries."

Largely in Orme's own handwriting. Orme adds: “N.B. The letters from which these extracts are made were lent to me by Calliaud, with permission to translate them, and they are transcribed in the sett of Folio Manuscripts titled at the back India, and numbered in capital figures - Vol. XII. From page 3286/233 to 3419/366; Vol. XIII. from page 3424/1 to 3581/158. The pages given against the extracts refer to the pages 233-366 in Vol. XII., and 1-158 in Vol. XIII. 3, pp. 249-279. A copious and exact Index of proper names, to many of which are added facts, contained in the extracts, which may be easily and surely referred to by this Index, as I [Orme] made it myself with attention. Apparently a fair copy. N. B. This volume is interesting as a further instance of Orme's method in indexing separately the inforrnation regarding particular parts of the country.
