Papyrus 113.1A-Papyrus 113.1B: A sixth-century document concerning a lawsuit between Delmatius alias Valentinus, son of Phoebammon, a soldier of the rank of the standard-bearer, and Aurelius Valentinus, son of Licinianus. Delmatius had sold a fifth part of his inheritance from his father to Valentinus; he later realised that the price he had asked was less than the real value, and asked either to annul the sale or have the difference paid. Valentinus finally agreed to pay six solidi more. With autograph signatures of the two parties involved and of seven witnesses and with the notarial subscription at the end. Papyrus 113.1A contains lines 1-64 of the text, Papyrus 113.1B lines 65-121; the left-hand side fragment from top in Papyrus 113.1A preserves the beginning of lines 2-4, with a trace of line 5; the upper fragment has the mid part of three lines.

Fragments of varying size from a papyrus roll, damaged throughout and written on one side; mounted on cardboard in two glass frames, named Papyrus 113.1A and Papyrus 113.1B. The two fragments on top at the left-hand side of Papyrus 113.1A were acquired from the Bodleian Library in 1896.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: 113.1A: 1010 x 300 mm; 113.1B: 965 x 290 mm. Housed in two glass frames named Papyrus 113.1A and Papyrus 113.1B, both measuring 1220 x 510 mm.
Script: Several hands: the hand that wrote the body of the document is neat and large, with upright letters; 10 hands in the autograph subscriptions at the end.

Origin: Krokodilopolis, Arsinoite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Purchased with the other papyri housed in the frames labelled as Papyrus 113.2 - Papyrus 113.17 from the Reverend Greville John Chester (b. 1830, d. 1892) on 13 July 1878. The two fragments on top at the left-hand side of Papyrus 113.1(a) were acquired from the Bodleian Library in 1896.
