Scope & Content:

113.9(a) (P.Lond. I 113.9(A), TM 38882): A seventh-century receipt of 2 artabas and 7 twelfths of grain, dated 23th Thoth, 1^st indiction; a place in the Arsinoite nome named Tarchion epoikion is mentioned.

113.9(b) (P.Lond. I 113.9(b), Stud.Pal. VIII 1159, TM 38883): A seventh-century document of small size containing instructions from Elias for the payment of some wine; with tachygraphic marks at the end.

113.9(c) (P.Lond. I 113.9(c), TM 38884) and 113.9(d) (P.Lond. I 113.9(d), TM 78451): Seventh-century acknowledgments of payment of money, written by the same scribe; with tachygraphic marks at the end (113.9(d) is on parchment).

113.9(e) (P.Lond. I 113.9(e), Stud.Pal. VIII 944, TM 38886): Order to deliver oil addressed to Cyricus, oil-seller, from Petterius, deacon and notary; dated to the late 7^th or early 8^th century; with tachygraphic marks at the end. The text is on parchment and belongs to the archive of Cyricus (TM Arch ID 126).

Dimensions: 113.9(a): 75 x 175 mm; 113.9(b): 45 x 80 mm; 113.9(c): 45 x 75 mm; 113.9(d): 40 x 70 mm; 113.9(e): 45 x 95 mm; housed in one glass frame measuring 365 x 305 mm.

Script: Various hands: 113.9(a): Semi-cursive hand, with upright letters of fair size. 113.9 (b-e): Small hands, with upright letters and some cursive elements; 113.9(c) and 113.9(d) were written by the same scribe.

Custodial History:

Origin: Arsinoite nome, Egypt.

Provenance: Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Purchased with the other papyri housed in the frames labelled as Papyrus 113.1- Papyrus 113.17 from the Reverend Greville John Chester (b. 1830, d. 1892) on 13 July 1878.
