1, p. I (21 x 17 cm.). Letter, dated Fort William, 5 Jan. 1769, from H. Verelst to Richard Smith. Original. Thanks him for his conduct of the negotiations with the Wazir of Oudh.
2, pp. 3-8 (22.5 x 18 cm.). Letter, dated Head Quarter's at Allahabad, 24-30 Jan. 1769, from Richard Smith to Robert Orme. Original.
3, pp. 12-18 (31.7 x 20 cm.). Letter, dated Allahabad, 26 Jan. 1769, from Richard Smith to H arry Verelst. Copy. Gives his opinion on the proper measures to be taken in view of the alliance of the Marathas with the Nizam and Haidar Ali against the English.
4, pp. 19-23 (23 x 18.5 cm.). Letter, dated Fort William, 30 Jan. 1769, from H. Verelst to Richard Smith. Signed by Verelst. Sends Smith a copy of his letter to Mr. Du Pré, Governor of Madras; suggests that the Wazir should lead a contingent of cavalry to the assistance of the Madras Government.

6, pp. 31-32 (22.8 x 18 cm.). Translation of a letter from Jannogee Bhonsilah to Col. Sir Robert Barker. Received 5 March 1769. In R. Smith's handwriting. Promises assistance against the enemies of the English.
7, pp. 33-34 (22.8 x 18 cm.). Advices received from Agra, which are to be depended on as Fact, March 6th, 1769. Dated at Agra 24th February. In R. Smith's handwriting.
8, pp. 35-41 (22.7 x 18 cm.). Letter, dated Allahabad, 22nd March 1769, from Richard Smith to Robert Orme. Original. Describes the extravagance of Shuja-ud-daula and presses his disgust at the loss of English prestige in Madras.
9, pp. 43-44 (22.7 x 18 cm.). Letter, dated Myr Absuls, near Patna, 16th July 1769, from Richard Smith to Robert Orme. Original. Says that a scandalous Peace has been concluded at Madras with Haidar Ali, and that he has advised Joseph Smith to refuse to serve a moment longer under such a government.
10, pp. 45-47 (23.7 x 18.5 cm.). Letter, dated St. Helena, 17th Feb. 1770, from Richard Smith to Robert Orme. Duplicate. Asks him to break the news of his arrival to his wife.
11, pp. 49-65 (22.4 x 18.2 cm.). Letter, dated Calcutta, 28 Aug. 1770, from Charles Floyer to Richard Smith. Original. Describes the Course of affairs in Bengal since Smith's departure, and the quarrels between the Council and the Select Committee; sends him a copy of the debates; says that no news has been received of the Aurora, which left the Cape with the Commissioners (Forde, Scrafton, and Vansittart) nine months previous; refers briefly to the relations of the Government with Shuja-ud-daula, the Marathas, Haidar Ali, etc.
