Fragments from Plato’s Politicus, from the same manuscript as P.Oxy. LXXVI 5089 (Sackler Library, inv. no. 85/81(b)), to the upper part of which fragment 2 connects. Fragment 2 contains the beginning of the dialogue (Politicus 257B) and presumably belonged to the first column of the roll, fragment 1 contains Politicus 261D-262B and fragment 3 Politicus 262B-C. The fragment in Oxford, connected to fragment 2, contains 257B-258A.

Three fragments of varying size from a papyrus roll, written on one side along the fibres and named 1-3 inside the frame. Fragment 1 is the largest, and contains remains of three columns (the third only having a few traces), possibly parts of the 12th, 13th and 14th columns of the roll. The upper and side margins survive to approximately 2 cm. Fragment 2 was part of the first column of the roll and connects to the upper part of P.Oxy. LXXVI 5089 (Sackler Library, inv. no. 85/81(b)). The average number of letters per line was 17. Housed in one glass case.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: Fragment 1: 180 x 125 mm; fragment 2: 55 x 50 mm; fragment 3: 45 x 30 mm; housed in one glass case measuring 265 x 190 mm.
Script: Upright formal round with decorative serifs and minimal shading, carefully executed; lectional marks and punctuation occur, with high and low dots, two dots to indicated change of speakers, filler markers, diplai. A variant reading occurs in the margin of fragment 1, column 2.
